🏸 2026 results
Every 2026 result we record for Akane Yamaguchi, tournament by tournament. Tournament names link to our summary page for that event (draw, the other Japanese entries, and how to follow the broadcast). 🆕The first card is the Thailand Open in May 2026, the earliest title of hers that we record (added on 2 October 2026). The All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June carries no score: she was named at third singles in three ties and all three were decided before her rubber. 🆕The All England Open in March 2026 is not one of the cards below, because we hold no page at all for that tournament — but the four scores from her run to the last four are recorded further down this page.
Thailand Open
Super 500・Bangkok, Thailand (Nimibutr Stadium)
Seeded 1st. She won all five matches, from the first round to the final. She beat Han Qianxi (CHN) 21-17, 21-15, Busanan Ongbamrungphan (THA) 21-12, 17-21, 21-17, P. V. Sindhu (IND, 6th seed) 19-21, 21-18, 21-15 in the quarter-final, Pitchamon Opatniputh (THA) 21-11, 21-15 in the semi-final, and Chen Yufei (CHN, 2nd seed) 21-14, 21-18 in the final. ⚠️We do not hold the date or the duration of the individual matches — only the opponent, the seeding and the score. The event was played to 21 points.
Two sources: our Thailand Open 2027 page, which carries the 2026 final as the previous edition, and the draw in the English Wikipedia article “2026 Thailand Open (badminton)”. The five scores agree in both, checked on 2 October 2026.
76th All Japan Corporate Team Championships
All Japan Corporate Team Championships・Fukaya, Saitama, Japan
🆕Saishunkan Pharmaceutical reached the last four, and Yamaguchi was named at third singles in three ties — the second round, the quarter-final and the semi-final. 🔴All three were already decided before her rubber, so she has no score at this event. The rules for this championship say the tie is stopped as soon as one team has won three of the five rubbers, and third singles is the last rubber in the order. Our tournament page counted 127 of the 435 rubbers in the knockout stage as never played. ⚠️We write only what the official order sheets show. No reason for a player not appearing is published, and we do not guess at one.
Daihatsu Japan Open
Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
Seeded 3rd, at home in Tokyo. She beat fellow Japanese Natsuki NIDAIRA 21-12, 21-12 in 41 minutes on 15 July. Then she lost the opening game in three matches running and won all three: Pitchamon OPATNIPUTH (THA) 17-21, 21-15, 21-11 in 64 minutes on 16 July, KIM Ga Eun (KOR) 14-21, 21-13, 22-20 in 61 minutes in the quarter-final on 17 July, and Putri Kusuma WARDANI (INA, 6th seed) 9-21, 21-16, 21-14 in 65 minutes in the semi-final on 18 July. The quarter-final's deciding game went to 22-20. The final was on 19 July, 17-21, 17-21 to P. V. SINDHU (IND) in 50 minutes. Five matches, four wins.
China Open
Super 1000・Changzhou, China
Seeded 3rd. She beat Supanida KATETHONG (THA) 21-13, 21-1 in 24 minutes on 22 July and her Saishunkan club-mate Riko GUNJI (JPN) 21-10, 21-6 in 30 minutes on 23 July. Then came two three-game wins on consecutive days: HAN Yue (CHN, 5th seed) 21-16, 14-21, 21-17 in 48 minutes in the quarter-final on 24 July, and WANG Zhi Yi (CHN, 2nd seed) 21-10, 6-21, 21-16 in 54 minutes in the semi-final on 25 July. The final was on 26 July: she beat home favourite CHEN Yufei (CHN), the Tokyo Olympic champion, 21-18, 21-16 in straight games. Five matches, five wins. This is the biggest win of her 2026 season by grade — the China Open is a Super 1000, the top tier of the BWF World Tour.
BWF World Championships 2026
World Championships・New Delhi, India
Seeded 2nd. She beat NGUYEN Thuy Linh (VIE) 21-12, 21-10 in 26 minutes on 18 August, WONG Ling Ching (MAS) 21-18, 21-10 in 36 minutes on 19 August and SIM Yu Jin (KOR, 14th seed) 21-17, 21-10 in 31 minutes in the third round on 20 August. Then came Michelle LI (CAN, 13th seed) 21-17, 21-10 in 28 minutes in the quarter-finals on 21 August and Pornpawee CHOCHUWONG (THA, 10th seed) 21-12, 21-17 in 40 minutes in the semi-finals on 22 August — five matches to the final, all in straight games, with the same 21-17, 21-10 score on two days running. That made a second final in a row and her fourth in all. In the final on 23 August she lost 17-21, 14-21 in 49 minutes to top seed An Se-young (KOR), so she did not retain the title. Six matches, five wins.
China Masters
Super 750・Shenzhen, China
Seeded 3rd. She beat HUANG Yu-Hsun (TPE) 21-11, 21-14 in 28 minutes on 1 September, SIM Yu Jin (KOR) 21-15, 21-16 in 34 minutes on 3 September and Supanida KATETHONG (THA) 21-18, 21-16 in the quarter-final on 4 September — three matches, all in straight games. In the quarter-final she took three points in a row from 18-18 in the opening game and four in a row from 17-16 in the second. The 2025 champion reached the last four here for a second year running. 🔴The semi-final on 5 September was a repeat of the World Championships final on 23 August, and she lost it to An Se-young (KOR, top seed) 13-21, 15-21 in 43 minutes, so the 2025 title is not defended. All four of her matches at this event finished in two games.
Asian Games 2026
Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan
Seeded 3rd. Silver in the individual event, with four wins from five matches: an Iranian player 21-5, 21-9 in the second round and a player from Macau 21-12, 21-12 in the third round, both on 26 September; Unnati HOODA (IND) 21-16, 14-21, 21-17 in the quarter-final on 27 September; and WANG Zhiyi (CHN, 2nd seed) 21-11, 22-20 in the semi-final on 28 September. 🔴She lost the final on 29 September to AN Se-young (KOR, top seed) 17-21, 9-21. Japan's women's team also took silver, and she played first singles in three ties: P. V. SINDHU (IND) 21-23, 21-18, 21-11 (1h 12m, won) in the quarter-final on 22 September, AN Se-young 9-21, 21-18, 11-21 (lost) in the semi-final against Korea on 23 September, and WANG Zhiyi 21-14, 19-21, 17-21 (1h 15m, lost) in the final against China on 24 September. Japan beat Korea 3-1 and lost the final 0-3. Four days after losing to Wang Zhiyi in the team final, she beat her in the individual semi-final. These three are the only team matches we record.
Denmark Open 2026
Super 750・Odense, Denmark
Seeded 3rd. She beat home player Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 13-21, 21-18 in the first round on 14 October and Ashmita CHALIHA (IND) 21-18, 21-10 in the second round on 15 October, then beat Pornpawee CHOCHUWONG (THA, 8th seed) 21-14, 22-20 in the quarter-final on 16 October and has reached the semi-finals (last four) (the tournament runs to 18 October). Her semi-final on 17 October is against WANG Zhi Yi (CHN, 2nd seed), scheduled for 20:10 Japan time (no result here yet). ⚠️The event is still going on, so these three matches are a snapshot as of 16 October and are not in any count on this page (such as the head-to-heads with An Se-young and Wang Zhiyi).
Scores are written from Akane Yamaguchi's point of view (Yamaguchi's points first). Only matches completed by 16 October 2026 are listed. Matches in progress are not listed.
🔥 Three finals in 35 days
The shape of Yamaguchi's 2026 season is that she reached three finals between 19 July and 23 August — 35 days, and two of them came in back-to-back weeks in Japan and China.
- 19 July — Japan Open final: 17-21, 17-21 to P. V. SINDHU (IND). Runner-up, at home in Tokyo.
- 26 July — China Open final: 21-18, 21-16 against CHEN Yufei (CHN). Champion — she took the title the week after losing a final, and on her opponent's home court.
- 23 August — World Championships final: 17-21, 14-21 to An Se-young (KOR). Runner-up, silver.
By grade, the China Open is the biggest of the three: it is a Super 1000, the top tier of the BWF World Tour; Chen Yufei won Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games, held in 2021; and the venue was Changzhou, in China. Every score here is taken from our own tournament pages, so you can follow each match back to the draw around it.
The opponent whose name comes up most often alongside Yamaguchi's is An Se-young of Korea. In the matches we record on this site, Yamaguchi has one win and four losses from five. Her only win is the 2025 Korea Open final; An Se-young has won all four of their 2026 meetings.
- 2025 — Korea Open final: Yamaguchi won 21-18, 21-13 in straight games, away in Korea and against the top seed.
- August 2026 — World Championships final: An Se-young won 17-21, 14-21, this time as world No. 1.
- September 2026 — China Masters semi-final: An Se-young won 13-21, 15-21.
- September 2026 — Asian Games team semi-final: An Se-young won 9-21, 21-18, 11-21 — the first of their meetings in our records to go to a third game.
- September 2026 — Asian Games individual final: An Se-young won 17-21, 9-21.
⚠️ These are only the five matches we record on our own tournament pages, not the pair's full head-to-head record. For career head-to-head figures, please use the BWF website.
🏴 All England 2026: 4 matches
⚠️We hold no page at all for the All England Open 2026. The tournament was a Super 1000 played at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, England, from 3 to 8 March 2026. That is why it is not one of the result cards above — but Yamaguchi was seeded 4th and reached the last four, and all four of her scores agree between the official BWF day data and the draw on English Wikipedia, so we record them here (added on 23 September 2026).
- 4 March — first round: Busanan ONGBAMRUNGPHAN (THA) 21-13, 21-11 in 35 minutes.
- 5 March — second round: CHIU Pin-Chian (TPE) 21-19, 21-17 in 44 minutes.
- 6 March — quarter-final: Line CHRISTOPHERSEN (DEN) 13-21, 21-17, 21-10 in 56 minutes — her only three-game match of the week.
- 🔴7 March — semi-final: WANG Zhi Yi (CHN, 2nd seed) 15-21, 19-21 in 43 minutes.
Four matches, three wins, and the last four. The player who beat her in that semi-final, Wang Zhiyi, went on to beat An Se-young (KOR, top seed) 21-15, 21-19 in the final on 8 March for her first All England title. Her five rounds are on the Wang Zhiyi page.
🔁In the matches we record, Yamaguchi and Wang Zhiyi met four times in 2026 and won two each. Wang took this semi-final on 7 March; Yamaguchi took the China Open semi-final on 25 July, 21-10, 6-21, 21-16. At the 2026 Asian Games Wang won the team final on 24 September (21-14, 19-21, 17-21 from Yamaguchi's side) and Yamaguchi won the individual semi-final on 28 September, 21-11, 22-20.
Sources: the official BWF day data for the tournament and the draw on English Wikipedia, which agree on all four matches. Our own All England 2027 page also records that the best Japanese result at the 2026 edition was Yamaguchi's last four.
🏆 Career highlights
- 2025 — BWF World Championships — champion

She beat the home favourite and top seed, An Se-young (KOR), 21-18, 21-13 in straight games. - 2025 — Arctic Open — champion

📅 What's next
Her September event was the 2026 Asian Games in Ichinomiya, Aichi, from 20 to 29 September — silver in both the individual and the team events. She lost the individual final on 29 September to An Se-young (KOR, top seed) 17-21, 9-21, and Japan lost the team final to China 0-3 on 24 September (Yamaguchi lost first singles to Wang Zhiyi 21-14, 19-21, 17-21). All eight scores are in the results cards above.
Before that came the China Masters 2026 (Super 750, Shenzhen, 1–6 September). Seeded 3rd, she came through the first round 21-11, 21-14 against HUANG Yu-Hsun (TPE), the second round 21-15, 21-16 against SIM Yu Jin (KOR) and the quarter-final on 4 September 21-18, 21-16 against Supanida KATETHONG (THA) — all three in straight games. 🔴In the semi-final on 5 September she lost to An Se-young (KOR, top seed) 13-21, 15-21 in 43 minutes — the same pairing as the World Championships final — so her 2025 title here is not defended. At that point our pages recorded three meetings between them, all finished in two games. The first to go to a third game was the Asian Games team semi-final on 23 September (9-21, 21-18, 11-21).

She is through to the semi-finals (last four) (the tournament runs until 18 October); her semi-final on 17 October is against WANG Zhi Yi (CHN, 2nd seed), scheduled for 20:10 Japan time (later if earlier matches overrun). The following week comes the French Open 2026 (20–25 October, France, Super 750): in the main draw published on 15 October she is the 3rd seed and meets LIN Hsiang Ti (TPE) in the first round (BWF). Withdrawals after the draw are still possible, so please check the BWF draw for the latest. 🆕The Denmark Open first and second rounds were added to the result cards above on 16 October 2026 and the quarter-final on 17 October (scores from Yamaguchi's side).

🔍 Keep your own scoresheet
Matches at this level read differently once you can see where the momentum turned. Her World Championships semi-final looks like a straight-games win, and it was — but 21-12, 21-17 says the second game was the closer of the two. A win-loss table would show none of that.
Badsheet records your own matches point by point, builds an official-style scoresheet and charts win rate and shot placement.
