Swiss Open 2026

🥉She came in unseeded and reached the semi-finals, three wins and one defeat. On 11 March she beat 4th seed Michelle LI (CAN) 21-18, 21-16; on 12 March, HSU Wen Chi (TPE) 21-5, 21-11; on 13 March, compatriot Riko Gunji in the quarter-finals 21-19, 21-18. On 14 March she lost the semi-final 16-21, 13-21 to top seed Putri Kusuma WARDANI (INA). All three wins came in straight games. Wardani then lost the final 11-21, 15-21 to 7th seed Supanida KATETHONG (THA), who took the title.

Orleans Masters 2026

Super 300・Orléans, France

🥇Seeded 5th, she won the title without losing a match. On 18 March she beat compatriot Hina Akechi 19-21, 21-13, 21-17; on 19 March, another compatriot, Manami SUIZU, 21-19, 21-11; on 20 March, NGUYEN Thuy Linh (VIE) 21-18, 21-8 in the quarter-finals; on 21 March, Tanvi SHARMA (IND) 21-9, 21-16 in the semi-finals; and on 22 March, Pitchamon OPATNIPUTH (THA) 21-15, 21-15 in the final. The opening game against Akechi was the only game she dropped all week. It was her first title of the season.

Daihatsu Japan Open

Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

Beat HAN Qianxi (CHN) 11-21, 21-11, 21-14 in the first round, ten points down after the opening game. Withdrew before the second round, so top seed AN Se-young (KOR) went through to the quarter-finals.

BWF World Championships 2026

World Championships・New Delhi, India

Seeded 11. Beat Ozge BAYRAK (TUR) 18-21, 21-16, 21-9 in 58 minutes, LIN Hsiang-Ti (TPE) 21-11, 21-16 in 40 minutes and Ishika JAISWAL (USA) 21-11, 13-21, 21-12 — three wins in a row for a first quarter-final at the Worlds since 2024. Withdrew before the quarter-final on 21 August, so Pornpawee CHOCHUWONG (THA, 10th seed) went through.

China Masters

Super 750・Shenzhen, China

Unseeded. She beat Natsuki NIDAIRA (JPN) 21-15, 21-19 in an all-Japanese first round on 2 September, then Michelle LI (CAN) 21-18, 21-14 in the second round on 3 September, both in straight games. In the quarter-final on 4 September she lost 6-21, 10-21 to 2nd seed WANG Zhi Yi (CHN) and went out in the last eight. She had won all four games of the previous two matches; here she did not reach double figures in either game.

Asian Games 2026

Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan

Named in the 10-strong squad announced on 19 May 2026. A detail that is easy to miss: the entry is for the team event only, not the individual draw (Akane Yamaguchi and Tomoka Miyazaki take the individual women's singles places). The team event runs from 20 to 24 September at Ichinomiya Municipal Gymnasium.

Okuhara's 2026 World Championships reads best as a run of three wins in a row from the 11th seeding — and two of those three went to three games, both after dropping one.

• 18 Aug, first round — Ozge BAYRAK (TUR) 18-21, 21-16, 21-9 in 58 minutes. The margin widened from three points to five to twelve.
• 19 Aug, second round — LIN Hsiang-Ti (TPE) 21-11, 21-16 in 40 minutes, the only straight-games win of the week.
• 20 Aug, round of 16 — Ishika JAISWAL (USA) 21-11, 13-21, 21-12, taking the decider after losing the middle game by eight.
• 21 Aug, quarter-final — withdrew. Pornpawee CHOCHUWONG (THA, 10th seed) went through, and Okuhara finished in the last eight.

🆕On 20 September 2026 we added her four results from the Swiss Open in March (BWF World Tour Super 300, St. Jakobshalle, Basel), and on 21 September the five from the Orleans Masters the following week (Super 300, Orléans, France). That takes us to sixteen matches for which we hold the score game by game — fourteen wins and two defeats — and it makes one pattern readable: all four that went to a third game were wins.

• 11 March, first round — 4th seed Michelle LI (CAN) 21-18, 21-16. She was unseeded, and drew a seed in her opening match.
• 12 March, second round — HSU Wen Chi (TPE) 21-5, 21-11, holding her to sixteen points across two games.
• 13 March, quarter-final — compatriot Riko Gunji 21-19, 21-18, one of the three all-Japanese ties of the week.
• 14 March, semi-final — 16-21, 13-21 to top seed Putri Kusuma WARDANI (INA), who then lost the final to 7th seed Supanida KATETHONG (THA).

🥇The following week she won the Orleans Masters 2026 as the 5th seed, five wins from five. Her first two opponents were both compatriots: Hina Akechi 19-21, 21-13, 21-17 on 18 March and Manami SUIZU 21-19, 21-11 on 19 March. The opening game against Akechi was the only game she dropped all week; the quarter-final, semi-final and final all went in straight games, the final 21-15, 21-15 over Pitchamon OPATNIPUTH (THA). Across the two March events that makes eight wins and one defeat, the defeat coming against the top seed, Wardani, in the Swiss Open semi-final.

🔁She played Michelle Li twice in 2026. The Swiss Open first round on 11 March finished 21-18, 21-16, and the China Masters second round on 3 September 21-18, 21-14 — both in straight games, and both opening 21-18. That pairing only becomes visible when two tournament pages are read side by side.

• 2025 — Indonesia Masters II — champion
  Beat Devika Sihag (IND) 21-11, 21-9 in the final on 26 October, in Medan, North Sumatra. The 2026 edition of the same slot moves to Kudus.
• 2025 — Malaysia Super 100 — champion
  Beat Wong Ling Ching (MAS) 21-18, 21-11 in the final on 19 October in Johor, after an all-Japanese semi-final against Hina Akechi won 21-8, 21-19. That made it two titles in two consecutive weeks.
• 2023 — Syed Modi International — champion (Lucknow, India)
  🔴Our own Syed Modi International 2026 page records this title with the score of the final: at the 2023 edition, from 28 November to 3 December, she came through unseeded and beat Line KJÆRSFELDT (DEN, 5th seed) 21-19, 21-16. The semi-final was an all-Japanese match against Aya OHORI (3rd seed), won 21-19, 22-20 — both games close to the end. Our tournament page and the draw on English Wikipedia agree.
• 2023 — Odisha Masters — champion (India)
  Women's singles title in December. The 2026 edition runs from 8 to 13 December in Cuttack. 🔴She won two titles in India that year: the Syed Modi International from 28 November to 3 December in Lucknow, then this one from 12 to 17 December in Cuttack — nine days between the two. • 2017 — BWF World Championships — champion (gold)
  Glasgow, Emirates Arena. Seeded 7, Okuhara beat P. V. Sindhu (IND) 21-19, 20-22, 22-20 in the final — the first world singles title for a Japanese woman.
• 2016 — Rio de Janeiro Olympics — women's singles bronze
  The first Olympic singles medal for a Japanese woman in badminton.

At the China Masters 2026 (Super 750, Shenzhen, 1–6 September) Okuhara was unseeded in the draw published on 25 August and reached the quarter-finals. She beat Natsuki NIDAIRA (JPN) 21-15, 21-19 in an all-Japanese first round and Michelle LI (CAN) 21-18, 21-14 in the second, both in straight games, then lost 6-21, 10-21 to 2nd seed WANG Zhi Yi (CHN) on 4 September.

After that come the 2026 Asian Games in Ichinomiya, Aichi (20–29 September). Okuhara is in Japan's squad, but entered for the team event only — the individual women's singles places go to Akane Yamaguchi and Tomoka Miyazaki. The team event runs from 20 to 24 September.

🗓️October in Europe: She is on the list of self-funded entrants the Nippon Badminton Association published on 11 September 2026 for three events — the Arctic Open 2026 (6–11 October, Finland, Super 500), the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October, Denmark, Super 750) and the French Open 2026 (20–25 October, France, Super 750) — in women's singles. The final field and the draw are fixed by BWF.
