🏸 2026 results📅 What's next

Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi (熊谷翔/西大輝, BIPROGY, men's doubles) and every 2026 badminton result we hold for them, match by match with the score. They are world No. 19 in men's doubles as of 13 October 2026, Japan's second pair behind Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi at No. 9. 🔴The eleven matches we had recorded in 2026 up to 6 September are six wins and five losses (the later matches at the Asian Games, the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open are not in that count and are listed separately below). 🆕At the Swiss Open in March they lost the second round to the 7th seeds, who went on to finish runners-up — and five months later they beat the pair who had won that final (see the pair who reached the final). 🆕At the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June they won all five first-doubles rubbers for BIPROGY and took the men's fighting-spirit award, beating Takuro Hoki and Shuntaro Mezaki in the final. the Taipei pair they beat 21-6, 21-23, 21-11 in July put them out of the World Championships 28 days later, 14-21, 14-21 (see the same opponents twice). Every result card links straight to our page for that tournament. The profile uses only what the Nippon Badminton Association and their team publish officially; we do not write about injuries or private life.

🏸 2026 results

Every 2026 result we record for Kumagai and Nishi, tournament by tournament. Tournament names link to our page for that event, which is written in Japanese. 🆕The first card is now the Swiss Open in March 2026, which our own Swiss Open 2027 page already held as the 2026 results. ⚠️Of events staged in the first half of 2026, we hold a summary page of its own for only two — the Japan Ranking Circuit in May and the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June. For January, February and April we hold no tournament page at all. Earlier results are under career highlights below.

3/10〜15 🏸 Second round

Swiss Open 2026

Super 300・Basel, Switzerland

🆕Two matches at the Swiss Open, one win and one defeat. First round, 10 March: HE Zhi-Wei / HUANG Jui-Hsuan (TPE) 11-21, 21-12, 21-15 — they lost the opening game 11-21 and turned it round. Second round, 12 March: 7th seeds Daniel LUNDGAARD / Mads VESTERGAARD (DEN), 18-21, 19-21. ⚡Those opponents went all the way to the final on 15 March and finished runners-up. 🔴The pair who beat them in that final were LEE Fang-Chih / LEE Fang-Jen (TPE, 6th seeds) — the same pair Kumagai and Nishi beat 21-12, 18-21, 21-18 in the World Championships first round five months later, on 17 August (see the pair who reached the final). ⚠️We hold no match times for either of these. 🆕Added on 21 September 2026: both results were already on our own Swiss Open 2027 page as the 2026 results. ⚠️The Nippon Badminton Association's day page for 12 March labels that second round "third round"; English Wikipedia and our own tournament page call it the second round. The opponent, the score and the date agree across all three.

6/17〜21 🥈 Runners-up, fighting-spirit award

76th All Japan Corporate Team Championships

All Japan Corporate Team Championships・Fukaya, Saitama, Japan

🆕They played all five of BIPROGY's first-doubles rubbers and won all five, dropping just one game — the first game of the final. 🔴The final on 21 June was against a pair who have a page on this site: they beat Tonami Transportation's Takuro Hoki and Shuntaro Mezaki 7-15, 15-7, 17-15; our tournament page writes it from Tonami's side as 15-7, 7-15, 15-17. Semi-final, 20 June: 15-10, 15-11 against Yuta Takei / Yuto Nakashizu (NTT East). Quarter-final: 15-11, 15-8 against Riei Ito / Yota Uchino (Kanazawa Gakuin Club). Group stage: 15-10, 16-14 and 15-8, 15-11. BIPROGY finished runners-up in both the men's and the women's competition, and the pair were given the men's fighting-spirit award (BIPROGY's own report of 22 June 2026). ⚠️Of these five, only the final is our own primary record; the other four come from the official live-results site. This event is played to 15 points, best of three, and no match times are published.

7/14〜19 🏸 Second round

Daihatsu Japan Open

Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

The first round on 14 July was an all-Japanese tie: they beat Yuichi Shimogami and Takumi Nomura 21-13, 21-16 in 31 minutes. In the second round on 16 July they lost 14-21, 18-21 in 40 minutes to top seeds KIM Won Ho / SEO Seung Jae (KOR). They closed the second game to 18-21.

7/21〜26 🏸 Quarter-finals

China Open

Super 1000・Changzhou, China

🔴This is the deepest run of the six 2026 events we had recorded for them up to 6 September. In the first round on 21 July they beat CHIU Hsiang Chieh / WANG Chi-Lin (TPE) 21-6, 21-23, 21-11 in 49 minutes: they took the opening game 21-6, lost the second 21-23 and closed out the decider 21-11. In the second round on 23 July they beat MAN Wei Chong / SOH Wooi Yik (MAS) 21-16, 21-17 in 31 minutes. ⚠️That score and the 31 minutes come from the day data published by BWF, because our own tournament page records only a straight-games win — they are not our own primary record. In the quarter-final on 24 July they lost to Ben LANE / Sean VENDY (ENG) 9-21, 21-18, 17-21 in 66 minutes. At 66 minutes it is the longest time we hold for them in 2026 up to 6 September.

8/17〜23 🏸 Second round

BWF World Championships 2026

World Championships・New Delhi, India

In the first round on 17 August they beat LEE Fang-Chih / LEE Fang-Jen (TPE) 21-12, 18-21, 21-18 in 60 minutes. In the second round on 18 August they lost 14-21, 14-21 in 30 minutes to 14th seeds CHIU Hsiang Chieh / WANG Chi-Lin (TPE), and both Japanese men's doubles pairs went out on the same day. At 30 minutes it is the shortest time we hold for them in 2026 up to 6 September. 🔴Those 14th seeds are the same pairing they had beaten 28 days earlier in the China Open first round (see the same opponents twice).

9/1〜6 🏸 First round

China Masters

Super 750・Shenzhen, China

They lost the first round on 2 September to CHIA Wei Jie / TEO Ee Yi (MAS) 21-16, 19-21, 20-22. 🔴They led the decider 20-17 — one point from the match — and then lost five points in a row. ⚠️The match time differs by one minute between our sources: our tournament page has 54 minutes and the BWF day data 55, so we give both. The tournament runs to Sunday 6 September, but their week ended in the first round.

9/20〜29 🏸 Quarter-finals

Asian Games 2026

Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan

In the individual event they reached the quarter-finals. They beat a Hong Kong pair 21-19, 19-21, 21-12 in the first round (25 September) and came from a game down to beat LEE Jhe-Huei / YANG Po-Hsuan (TPE) 20-22, 21-17, 21-12 in the second (26 September). In the quarter-final on 27 September they took the first game against the first seeds Kim Won-ho / Seo Seung-jae (KOR) and lost 21-15, 17-21, 15-21; the Koreans went on to take bronze. Hoki / Kobayashi lost in the second round, so this was Japan's only men's doubles pair in the last eight. In the team event Japan's men (fourth seeds) beat Kazakhstan 3-0 and lost 0-3 to India in the quarter-final (we have not recorded which ties this pair played). ⚠️These three matches are not yet in the count above.

10/6〜11 🏸 First round

Arctic Open 2026

Super 500・Vantaa, Finland

Entered on the association's self-funded list, they lost their first-round match on 7 October to Oliver BUTLER / Samuel JONES (ENG) 20-22, 18-21 (41 minutes). Of the three Japanese men's doubles pairs in the main draw, only Hoki / Kobayashi reached the second round (Shimogami / Nomura, on the self-funded list, were not in the draw). ⚠️This match is not yet in the count above either.

10/13〜18 🏸 Last eight (lost to the 1st seeds)

Denmark Open 2026

Super 750・Odense, Denmark

They played as part of the Japan squad the Nippon Badminton Association named on 11 September 2026. They beat Christo Popov / Toma Junior Popov (FRA) 21-14, 21-18 in the first round on 13 October and eighth seeds Ben LANE / Sean VENDY (ENG) 21-19, 23-21 in the second round on 15 October. Their second-round opponents were the pair who beat them in the China Open quarter-final in July. In the quarter-final on Friday 16 October they lost 5-21, 17-21 to the first seeds KIM Won Ho / SEO Seung Jae (KOR), who also beat them in the Asian Games quarter-final in September. ⚠️These three matches are not in the count above (up to 6 September) either (scores from Kumagai and Nishi's side).

10/31〜 📅 Playing for BIPROGY

S/J League 2026-27

Japan domestic league・BIPROGY, men's J block

Japan's top company-team league. BIPROGY's men are in the J block with Tonami Transportation, Toyota Tsusho, Daido Steel, Tokai Kogyo and JR Hokkaido. It starts on Saturday 31 October 2026 and runs to the TOP4 Tournament on Sunday 21 February 2027, across 15 venues.

12/24〜30 📅 Third here in 2024 and 2025

80th All Japan Championships

All Japan Championships・Chofu, Tokyo

Japan's national championship. According to BIPROGY's official career summaries, both players finished third in the men's doubles at the 2024 and the 2025 All Japan Championships. We have not yet confirmed the 2026 entry list.

Scores are written from Kakeru Kumagai / Hiroki Nishi's point of view (Kumagai and Nishi's points first). The count above covers matches completed by 6 September 2026; the later matches at the Asian Games, the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open are not in it and are written separately in the cards and under What's next. Matches in progress are not listed.

🔁 Same opponents, 28 days apart

Up to 6 September 2026 we hold eleven matches from six tournaments for this pair — six wins and five losses (the later matches at the Asian Games, the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open are not in this count). Two of them came against CHIU Hsiang Chieh / WANG Chi-Lin (TPE) inside 28 days, and the results were opposites.

Kumagai and Nishi against Chiu and Wang twice: a 21-6, 21-23, 21-11 win in the China Open first round on 21 July 2026 in 49 minutes, and a 14-21, 14-21 loss to the 14th seeds in the World Championships second round on 18 August 2026 in 30 minutes.
Above, the China Open first round on 21 July; below, the World Championships second round on 18 August. Same pairing, opposite result. The figure is labelled in Japanese.

Those 30 minutes are the shortest time we hold for them in 2026 up to 6 September. ⚠️No match times are published for the June team championships, so those five are outside this comparison. The longest is the 66-minute China Open quarter-final on 24 July against Ben LANE / Sean VENDY (ENG), so the shortest and the longest both fall inside the same month of the season.

Their ranking. They are world No. 19 in men's doubles on the list of 13 October 2026 (50,588 points from 18 counting tournaments). The official BWF ranking (Week 42) and the specialist outlet Badminton Spirit agree on both the place and the points; a week earlier, on 8 September, they were 21st on the same total. On our own site they were 23rd as of 5 May 2026, in the Japan squad list on our Asian Games 2026 page.

Rankings are updated every week. We publish them only as dated records, never as a bare world number.

🇯🇵 June finals, both on site

🔴In the finals of the 76th All Japan Corporate Team Championships on 21 June 2026, the first-doubles rubber in both the men's and the women's tie was between pairs who have a page on this site. Our All Japan Corporate Team Championships 2026 page holds both rubbers as a primary record, inside the five rubbers of each final.

A chart of the two first-doubles rubbers in the finals of the 76th All Japan Corporate Team Championships on 21 June 2026. In the men's final BIPROGY's Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi beat Tonami Transportation's Takuro Hoki and Shuntaro Mezaki 7-15, 15-7, 17-15, but Tonami won the tie 3-1 for their first title since 2018. In the women's final Gifu Bluvic's Sayaka Hirota and Ayako Sakuramoto beat BIPROGY's Kie Nakanishi and Rin Iwanaga 15-12, 14-16, 15-11, and Gifu Bluvic won the tie 3-2 for their first title. The side that won the men's first doubles lost the tie; the side that won the women's first doubles went on to win it. Played to 15 points, best of three. The chart is labelled in Japanese.
The men's first doubles on top, the women's below. In both, the challenging side won the rubber — and the ties finished the opposite way round.

Scores are our own tournament page's record and match the official live-results site. The event is played to 15 points, best of three, and no match times are published.

⚡ The pair who reached the final

🔴The pair who stopped Kumagai and Nishi in March finished runners-up at that tournament — and five months later the two of them beat the pair who had won that final. The three results sit on different pages, so they only join up once the results are re-sorted by player.

A chart linking Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi's Swiss Open in March 2026 to their World Championships in August. In the Swiss Open first round on 10 March they beat HE Zhi-Wei and HUANG Jui-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei 11-21, 21-12, 21-15. In the second round on 12 March they lost 18-21, 19-21 to the 7th seeds Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard of Denmark, who went on to reach the final on 15 March and finish runners-up. Scores are from Kumagai and Nishi's point of view. The chart is labelled in Japanese.
March: beaten by the runners-up. August: they beat the champions.

We do not write about why any of this happened; what is listed above is only the dates and the scores. ⚠️The final is written from the winners' side; the other two lines are from Kumagai and Nishi's point of view. 🔍 Keep your own scoresheet

Six of the eleven 2026 matches we had recorded for this pair up to 6 September went to a third game, and four of their five defeats contain a game they lost from 18 points or better — 20-22, 19-21, 18-21 and 17-21 (both figures are within the count up to 6 September). Keeping a record of where the run of lost points started, rather than the final margin, is what helps the second time you meet the same opponents.

What is their world ranking?

World No. 19 in men's doubles as of 13 October 2026, with 50,588 points from 19 counted events. On 15 September 2026 they were No. 20 with 49,488 points, so they have moved up 1 place. The official BWF ranking (Week 42) and the specialist outlet Badminton Spirit's list dated 13 October agree on the place, the points and the number of counted events. World rankings are updated every week, so we publish ours with the date attached.

What are their 2026 results so far?

In the events we cover with a tournament page: second round at the Daihatsu Japan Open (Super 750) in July, quarter-finals at the China Open (Super 1000) in July, second round at the BWF World Championships in August, and first round at the China Masters (Super 750) in September; second round at the Swiss Open (Super 300) in March; and in June they were runners-up with BIPROGY at the 76th All Japan Corporate Team Championships, where they won all five of their first-doubles rubbers. That is eleven matches, six wins and five losses, up to 6 September (not counting the later events: the Asian Games 2026, where they reached the quarter-finals; the Arctic Open 2026, where they lost in the first round; and the Denmark Open 2026, where they lost to the first seeds KIM Won Ho / SEO Seung Jae in the quarter-finals on 16 October).

How did they do at the Swiss Open in March 2026?

They won one and lost one of their two matches at the Swiss Open and went out in the second round. First round on 10 March: HE Zhi-Wei / HUANG Jui-Hsuan (TPE) 11-21, 21-12, 21-15, after losing the opening game. Second round on 12 March: 7th seeds Daniel LUNDGAARD / Mads VESTERGAARD (DEN) 18-21, 19-21. Those opponents reached the final on 15 March and finished runners-up, and the pair who beat them in that final were LEE Fang-Chih / LEE Fang-Jen (TPE, 6th seeds) — the same pair Kumagai and Nishi beat 21-12, 18-21, 21-18 in the first round of the 2026 BWF World Championships five months later, on 17 August. Our sources are the Nippon Badminton Association's day pages for the 2026 Swiss Open and the draw tables in the English Wikipedia article 2026 Swiss Open (badminton); the opponent, the score and the date agree in both. The association's day page for 12 March calls that second round the third round.

What was their best result of 2026?

The China Open quarter-finals in July, at Super 1000 level. They beat CHIU Hsiang Chieh / WANG Chi-Lin (TPE) 21-6, 21-23, 21-11 and MAN Wei Chong / SOH Wooi Yik (MAS) 21-16, 21-17, then lost to Ben LANE / Sean VENDY (ENG) 9-21, 21-18, 17-21.

Is either player left-handed?

Kumagai is left-handed and Nishi is right-handed. Both the Nippon Badminton Association national team pages and BIPROGY's official player pages give the same information.

What have they won together?

According to BIPROGY's official career summaries, as a pair they won the men's doubles at the 2025 All Japan Corporate Championships, the 2025 Kaohsiung Masters and the 2025 Northern Marianas Open, and were runners-up at the 2025 Indonesia Masters (Super 100) and the 2024 Odisha Masters. They finished third in men's doubles at the All Japan Championships in both 2024 and 2025. Our own Kaohsiung Masters 2026 page holds the score of that 2025 final: they beat SU Ching-heng and WU Kuan-lun of Taiwan 21-18, 21-17.

Why is this one page for two players?

Because a doubles match is a single record for the pair. What our tournament pages hold are results for the pair, so this page, which is those results rearranged by player, is one page for the two of them. Only the profile is split per player.

Which tournaments are they playing this autumn?

At the Asian Games 2026 in Ichinomiya, Aichi, in September they reached the quarter-finals (lost 21-15, 17-21, 15-21 to the Korean first seeds), and at the Arctic Open 2026 in October they lost in the first round. At the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October) they beat Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov of France 21-14, 21-18 in the first round, beat eighth seeds Ben LANE / Sean VENDY of England 21-19, 23-21 in the second round on 15 October, then lost 5-21, 17-21 to the first seeds KIM Won Ho / SEO Seung Jae (KOR) in the quarter-finals on 16 October. Next, at the French Open 2026 (20–25 October), the main draw published on 15 October gives them MAN Wei Chong / TEE Kai Wun (MAS) in the first round. At home come the S/J League 2026-27 from 31 October, where BIPROGY are in the men's J block, and the 80th All Japan Championships from 24 December. Where a draw or an entry list has not been published, we do not print guessed entries.
