Every 2026 result we record for Iwanaga and Nakanishi, tournament by tournament. Our tournament pages start with the Daihatsu Japan Open in July, so the eight events below are the ones we cover; earlier results, such as their runners-up finish at the Thailand Open in May, are listed under career highlights. Scores are cross-checked against our own tournament pages, the draws on the English Wikipedia and the official BWF day data.
Daihatsu Japan Open
Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
Seeded 7. In the first round on 15 July they beat Bengisu ERCETIN / Nazlican INCI (TUR) 21-17, 21-16 in 40 minutes. In the second round on 16 July they lost 15-21, 21-18, 11-21 in 74 minutes to compatriots Hinata SUZUKI / Nao YAMAKITA — the only three-game match we have recorded for them in 2026.
China Open
Super 1000・Changzhou, China
Seeded 7. They beat Gabriela STOEVA / Stefani STOEVA (BUL) 21-14, 21-15, then 21-10, 21-11 in 29 minutes over ERCETIN / INCI (TUR) — the same pair they had beaten in the Japan Open first round the week before. In the quarter-finals they lost 8-21, 24-26 in 49 minutes to BAEK Ha Na / LEE So Hee (KOR, 3rd seeds), the second game going to 24-26.
BWF World Championships 2026
World Championships・New Delhi, India
Seeded 7 (the seedings were based on the world rankings of 28 July 2026) and byed through the first round. They won 21-15, 21-14 in 44 minutes against Hathaithip MIJAD / Napapakorn TUNGKASATAN (THA), then lost 16-21, 12-21 to home pair Treesa JOLLY / Gayatri GOPICHAND (IND). Japan's doubles campaign ended in all three doubles events on the same day.
China Masters
Super 750・Shenzhen, China
Seeded 6, with a bye in the first round. Their second round (3 September, their tournament opener) ended in a 20-22, 15-21 loss to Francesca CORBETT / Jennie GAI (USA) in 48 minutes. Losing the first game 20-22 proved costly, and the 6th seeds were out in the round of 16.
Asian Games 2026
Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan
One of the two women's doubles pairs in the 10-strong Japan squad announced by the Nippon Badminton Association on 19 May 2026. They were listed as World No. 7 in that announcement too — the same position as on 1 September. The team event runs from 20 to 24 September and the individual event from 25 to 29 September, at Ichinomiya City Gymnasium.
Arctic Open 2026
Super 500・Vantaa, Finland
Entries for 2026 have not been published yet. They were the runners-up in 2025, losing the final 7-21, 9-21 to Pearly TAN / Thinaah MURALITHARAN (MAS). Their semi-final was an all-Japanese match against Arisa IGARASHI and Chiharu SHIDA, won 26-24 in the deciding game.
Korea Open 2026
Super 500・Yeosu, South Korea
Entries for 2026 have not been published yet. They were the runners-up in 2025 in Suwon as well. Their semi-final was an all-Japanese match against Yuki FUKUSHIMA / Mayu MATSUMOTO, won 21-18, 14-21, 21-16. The 2026 edition is at Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu.
Hong Kong Open 2026
Super 500・Kai Tak Arena, Hong Kong
Entries for 2026 have not been published yet. They were the runners-up in 2025 too, losing the final 17-21, 15-21 to JIA Yifan / ZHANG Shuxian (CHN). China won all five titles at the 2025 Hong Kong Open, and this runners-up finish was Japan's best result there.
Scores are written from Rin Iwanaga / Kie Nakanishi's point of view (Iwanaga and Nakanishi's points first). Only matches completed by 3 September 2026 are listed. Matches in progress are not listed.
🥈 The three finals return
Three tournaments they lost the final of in 2025 come round again in the autumn of 2026. We keep a page for all three, so the scores from last year's finals and this year's dates can sit side by side.
- From 6 to 11 October — Arctic Open (Vantaa, Finland, Super 500). In 2025 they lost the final 7-21, 9-21 to Pearly TAN / Thinaah MURALITHARAN.
- From 3 to 8 November — Korea Open (Yeosu, South Korea, Super 500). Runners-up in Suwon in 2025, after an all-Japanese semi-final against Yuki FUKUSHIMA / Mayu MATSUMOTO won 21-18, 14-21, 21-16.
- From 17 to 22 November — Hong Kong Open (Kai Tak Arena, Super 500). In 2025 they lost the final 17-21, 15-21 to JIA Yifan / ZHANG Shuxian.

Both play for BIPROGY, a company team based in Tokyo. The Nippon Badminton Association lists BIPROGY as the club for both players. Rin Iwanaga was born on 21 May 1999, comes from Yamaguchi Prefecture, went to Yanai Shoko High School and is right-handed. Kie Nakanishi was born on 24 December 1995, comes from Kanagawa Prefecture, went to Waseda University, is left-handed and is 170cm tall.
