🏸 2026 results📅 What's next

Sayaka Hobara (Japan, Yonex) is 28 years old and plays two events: women's doubles with Rui Hirokami and mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami. 🔴She both beat and lost to the same Chinese pair inside 14 days (→the same opponent, reversed). At the 2026 World Championships she played two matches on 19 August and won both, then two more on 20 August and lost both — four matches in two days. She is World No. 14 in women's doubles and No. 15 in mixed doubles as of 13 October 2026. 🆕In March she and Rui Hirokami reached the semi-finals of the Orléans Masters as 4th seeds (→semi-finals in Orléans), and up to 2 September we recorded fourteen matches for her in 2026: six wins, eight losses (her later matches at the Asian Games, the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open are listed separately). This page lists every 2026 result we hold, with the score of each match, and every entry links to our tournament page for that event. This is an unofficial fan summary: the profile below only uses what our sources publish — we do not write about injuries or private life.

🏸 2026 results

Every 2026 result we record for Sayaka Hobara, tournament by tournament. Tournament names link to our summary page for that event. 🆕The first card is now the Swiss Open in March 2026, which our own Swiss Open 2027 page already held as the 2026 results. 🆕The second card is the Orléans Masters the following week, where she and Rui Hirokami were 4th seeds and semi-finalists; those results are on our own Orleans Masters 2027 page as the 2026 results, and we added them on 22 September 2026. ⚠️Of events staged in the first half of 2026, we hold a summary page of its own for only two — the Japan Ranking Circuit in May and the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June, and she appears on neither of them. For January, February and April we hold no tournament page at all. 🆕The Indonesia Open in June 2026 (Super 1000) is covered on our Indonesia Open 2027 page, which records her women's doubles semi-final; that week is set out in semi-finals in Jakarta and is not counted in the fourteen matches in the cards below. 🔴Where she entered two draws, both events are shown on the same card.

3/10〜15 🏸 Second round (WD), seeded 8th

Swiss Open 2026

Super 300・Basel, Switzerland

🆕Women's doubles only at this one. At the Swiss Open she and Rui Hirokami were seeded 8th and played two matches, one win and one defeat. First round, 10 March: CHANG Ching Hui / YANG Ching Tun (TPE) 21-14, 21-16. Second round, 12 March: Francesca CORBETT / Jennie GAI (USA) 12-21, 21-17, 19-21 — she lost the opening game, levelled the match, then came up two points short in the decider. 🔴That American pair also turns up on the other Japanese women's doubles page we keep: Rin Iwanaga / Kie Nakanishi lost to them 20-22, 15-21 in the China Masters second round on 3 September. ⚠️She did not enter the mixed doubles here. 🆕Added on 21 September 2026: both results were already on our own Swiss Open 2027 page as the 2026 results. ⚠️The Nippon Badminton Association's day page for 12 March labels that second round "third round"; English Wikipedia and our own tournament page call it the second round. The opponent, the score and the date agree across all three.

3/17〜22 🥉 Semi-finals (WD), seeded 4th

Orleans Masters 2026

Super 300・Orléans, France

🆕Women's doubles only at this one. She and Rui Hirokami were 4th seeds and reached the semi-finals, winning two of their three matches in Orléans. First round, 17 March: a walkover — Ashwini BHAT K. / Shikha GAUTAM (IND) withdrew, so no match was played. Second round, 19 March: Hathaithip MIJAD / Napapakorn TUNGKASATAN (THA) 21-13, 21-10 in 35 minutes. Quarter-final, 20 March: BAO Li Jing / LUO Xu Min (CHN) 16-21, 26-24, 21-17 in 80 minutes — a comeback after losing the opening game; the Nippon Badminton Association's report says they were 10-18 down in the second game. Semi-final, 21 March: LIN Chih-Chun / YANG Chu Yun (TPE) 21-17, 19-21, 18-21 in 64 minutes — beaten after taking the opening game. 🥇That pair lost the final the next day to Japan's Sumire Nakade / Miyu Takahashi (→semi-finals in Orléans). ⚠️She did not enter the mixed doubles here.
🆕Added on 22 September 2026: these results were already on our own Orleans Masters 2027 page as the 2026 results. The Nippon Badminton Association's day pages, the English Wikipedia draw and BWF's official match data agree on the opponent, the score and the date. Match times are from BWF.

7/14〜19 🏸 Second round (WD)

Daihatsu Japan Open

Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

She entered the women's doubles only here — no mixed doubles. With Rui Hirokami she lost the second round on 16 July to Gabriela Stoeva / Stefani Stoeva (BUL), 18-21, 15-21. ⚠️We hold no record of the first round at this event, so the second round above is all we have from it.

7/21〜26 🏸 Second round (XD)

China Open

Super 1000・Changzhou, China

Here it was the mixed doubles only. With Yuichi Shimogami she won the first round over Tang Chun Man / Tse Ying Suet (HKG) 21-18, 19-21, 21-19 in three games, then lost the second round on 23 July to Yang Po-Hsuan / Hu Ling Fang (TPE), 21-14, 15-21, 19-21 — after taking the opening game. ⚠️We hold no record of her playing the women's doubles at this event.

8/17〜23 🏸 Third round in both

BWF World Championships 2026

World Championships・New Delhi, India

🔴Two events here, and she was seeded in both — 14th in the women's doubles, 13th in the mixed, so she had a bye in each. On 19 August she played twice and won twice: with Rui Hirokami she beat Luo Yi / Wang Ting Ge (CHN) 21-11, 19-21, 21-6 in 60 minutes, and with Yuichi Shimogami she beat Bimo Prasetyo / Arlia Munggaran (INA) 21-13, 21-16 in 35 minutes. On 20 August she played twice and lost twice: the women's doubles to Baek Ha-na / Lee So-hee (KOR, 3rd seeds) 21-8, 13-21, 9-21, the mixed to Dechapol Puavaranukroh / Supissara Paewsampran (THA, 4th seeds) 21-17, 12-21, 17-21. On both days she took the opening game of both matches.

9/1〜6 🏸 First round in both

China Masters

Super 750・Shenzhen, China

Both events ended in the first round, but on different days. The mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami went out on 1 September, 11-21, 15-21 in 35 minutes to Jiang Zhenbang / Wei Yaxin (CHN, 3rd seeds). The women's doubles with Rui Hirokami went out on 2 September, 17-21, 21-8, 5-21 in 60 minutes to Luo Yi / Wang Ting Ge (CHN). 🔴Those were the same opponents she had beaten 14 days earlier in the second round of the World Championships (→the same opponent, reversed).

9/20〜29 ✖ Mixed doubles: out in round 2

Asian Games 2026

Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan

She was in the squad the Nippon Badminton Association announced on 19 May 2026 and played the mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami (the announcement listed them at World No. 17 at that time). In the individual mixed doubles they went out in the second round. First round, 25 September: a Mongolian pair 21-4, 21-4. Second round, the same day: the 4th seeds from Chinese Taipei 10-21, 15-21. Japan's other mixed pair, Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi, also went out in the second round. Japan's women won team silver, but we have not recorded any team match she played. ⚠️These two matches are not in the fourteen-match count we record (scores from Hobara's side).

10/6〜11 ✖ Women's doubles: out in round 1

Arctic Open 2026

Super 500・Vantaa, Finland

4th seeds in the women's doubles with Rui Hirokami, out in the first round. First round, 7 October: LUO Yi / WANG Ting Ge (CHN) 16-21, 21-13, 19-21 (73 minutes). The mixed doubles entry with Yuichi Shimogami was in neither the BWF main draw nor the qualifying. ⚠️This match is not in the fourteen-match count we record (scores from Hobara's side).

10/13〜18 ✖ Women's doubles: out in round 2

Denmark Open 2026

Super 750・Odense, Denmark

In the women's doubles with Rui Hirokami she won the first round on 13 October against HARRIS / VAN LEEUWEN (ENG) 21-5, 21-18. In the second round on 15 October they lost to another Japanese pair, Sayaka Hirota / Ayako Sakuramoto, 13-21, 15-21, which ended their women's doubles (early on 16 October Japan time). The mixed doubles entry with Yuichi Shimogami is not in the BWF main draw. ⚠️These two matches are not in the fourteen-match count we record (scores from Hobara's side).

Scores are written from Sayaka Hobara's point of view (Hobara's points first). Only matches completed by 16 October 2026 are listed. Matches in progress are not listed.

🔁 Beaten by the same pair

🔴Of the Japanese women's doubles pairs we keep a page for, two met Francesca CORBETT / Jennie GAI (USA) in 2026 — and neither of them won. The two results sit on two different tournament pages, so they can only be read side by side once the results are re-sorted by player.

On 12 March, in the second round of the 2026 Swiss Open (Super 300), 8th seeds Sayaka Hobara and Rui Hirokami lost 12-21, 21-17, 19-21 in three games. On 3 September, in the second round of the 2026 China Masters (Super 750), 6th seeds Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi lost 20-22, 15-21 in two. The same American pair, in March and in September. Both Japanese pairs were seeded.

We do not write about why any of this happened. What is listed above is only the dates and the scores themselves, as recorded on our own tournament pages. This is not a career head-to-head — only the matches we recorded in 2026.

🏸 Semi-finals in Orléans

🔴At the Orléans Masters in March 2026 (Super 300), Sayaka Hobara and Rui Hirokami were 4th seeds and reached the semi-finals. It is her deepest run among the events in the results cards (she also reached the last four at the Indonesia Open in June — see semi-finals in Jakarta). Two of their three matches in Orléans went to a third game: the quarter-final was won after losing the opening game, the semi-final lost after winning it.

A chart of Sayaka Hobara and Rui Hirokami's women's doubles run at the 2026 Orléans Masters, where they were 4th seeds. First round, 17 March: a walkover, as Ashwini Bhat K. and Shikha Gautam of India withdrew, so no match was played. Second round, 19 March: beat Hathaithip Mijad and Napapakorn Tungkasatan of Thailand 21-13, 21-10 in 35 minutes. Quarter-final, 20 March: beat Bao Li Jing and Luo Xu Min of China 16-21, 26-24, 21-17 in 80 minutes. Semi-final, 21 March: lost to Lin Chih-Chun and Yang Chu Yun of Chinese Taipei 21-17, 19-21, 18-21 in 64 minutes. That pair lost the final the next day to Sumire Nakade and Miyu Takahashi of Japan. Scores are from Hobara's point of view. The chart is labelled in Japanese.

🥇The next day, 22 March, that pair lost the final to Sumire Nakade / Miyu Takahashi, 22-20, 12-21, 21-18 from the Japanese pair's side. The pair who stopped Hobara and Hirokami were beaten for the title by another Japanese pair.

We do not write about why any of this happened. What is listed above is only the dates and the scores themselves. Sources: our own Orleans Masters page (2026 results), the Nippon Badminton Association's day-by-day results, the English Wikipedia draw and BWF's official match data; the opponent, the score and the date agree across them. 🏸 Semi-finals in Jakarta

⚠️The results in this section are not counted in the fourteen matches in the cards above. Our Indonesia Open 2027 page records that Hobara and Rui Hirokami reached the last four of the 2026 women's doubles, with the semi-final score. The other rounds are confirmed by two agreeing sources, the official BWF day data and the English Wikipedia draw.

🔴Unseeded, they beat the 8th and the 2nd seeds on the way to the semi-finals. Fukushima and Matsumoto went on to beat the top seeds Liu Shengshu / Tan Ning (CHN) 21-15, 18-21, 21-18 in the final the next day — the pair who stopped Hobara and Hirokami won the title.

🔁On 16 July, in the second round of the Japan Open, the same Stoeva sisters beat them 18-21, 15-21 (see the cards above): a win in June, a defeat in July.

We do not write about why any of this happened. Scores are from Hobara's point of view; match times come from the official BWF day data. The semi-final score agrees across our tournament page, the BWF day data and English Wikipedia.

🏆 Career highlights

📅 What's next

🔴At the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October, Denmark, Super 750), her women's doubles with Rui Hirokami ended with a second-round loss. Next is the French Open 2026 (see below).

✅The Asian Games 2026 (20 to 29 September, Ichinomiya Municipal Gymnasium, Aichi, Japan) are over. She was in the squad the Nippon Badminton Association announced on 19 May 2026, entered in the mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami for both the individual and the team event, one of Japan's two mixed pairs in the individual draw; the other is Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi. In the individual mixed doubles they beat a Mongolian pair 21-4, 21-4 in the first round on 25 September and lost the second round the same day to the 4th seeds from Chinese Taipei 10-21, 15-21. Japan's women won team silver (we have not recorded any team match she played). ⚠️These two matches are not in the fourteen-match count above (the card is in the 2026 results above; the full event is on our Asian Games 2026 page).

🗓️October in Europe: She is in the Japan squad the Nippon Badminton Association named on 11 September 2026 for the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October, Denmark, Super 750) and the French Open 2026 (20–25 October, France, Super 750), in both the women's doubles (with Rui Hirokami) and the mixed doubles (with Yuichi Shimogami). At the Denmark Open only the women's doubles is in the BWF main draw; the mixed doubles entry with Yuichi Shimogami is not. In the women's doubles they beat HARRIS / VAN LEEUWEN (ENG) 21-5, 21-18 in the first round on 13 October, and lost the second round on 15 October (early on 16 October Japan time) to another Japanese pair, Sayaka Hirota / Ayako Sakuramoto, 13-21, 15-21. At the French Open too, only the women's doubles is in the main draw published on 15 October: an all-Japanese first round against Rin Iwanaga / Kie Nakanishi (3rd seeds). The mixed doubles entry with Yuichi Shimogami is not in the French Open main draw either (no reason has been announced).

🔴At the Arctic Open 2026 (6–11 October, Finland, Super 500) the BWF draw had her in the women's doubles only. She was on the association's list of self-funded entrants of the same 11 September in both the women's doubles (with Rui Hirokami) and the mixed doubles (with Yuichi Shimogami), but when we counted, one by one, all ten draws BWF published on 6 October 2026 for the five events — main draw and qualifying, only the women's pair is there, seeded 4th; the mixed entry was in neither the main draw nor the qualifying (Japan has 17 entries at this tournament: nine singles players and eight doubles pairs). ⚠️ No reason has been announced, so we do not state one.

🔁In that women's doubles draw they lost the first round on 7 October to LUO Yi / WANG Ting Ge of China 16-21, 21-13, 19-21 (73 minutes), and we hold two other matches against that pair: a 21-11, 19-21, 21-6 win in the second round of the World Championships 2026 on 19 August and a 17-21, 21-8, 5-21 defeat in the first round of the China Masters 2026 on 2 September — both of them 60-minute three-gamers. ⚠️ The Arctic Open first-round match is not in the fourteen-match count above.

A figure comparing two lists for the Arctic Open 2026. The Nippon Badminton Association self-funded entry list of 11 September 2026 carried Yuichi Shimogami / Takumi Nomura in the men's doubles and Yuichi Shimogami / Sayaka Hobara and Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi in the mixed doubles. When all ten draws BWF published on 6 October 2026 for the five events, main draw and qualifying, were counted one by one, none of those three appear. Japan has 17 entries: nine singles players and eight doubles pairs. Those that are in the draw include Rui Hirokami / Sayaka Hobara as the 4th seeds in the women's doubles and Akira Koga / Natsu Saito in the mixed doubles, the pair sent as the national team. No reason has been announced, so we do not state one. The figure is labelled in Japanese.
Being on the entry list is not the same as being in the draw. The figure is labelled in Japanese.

Withdrawals after the draw are possible, so check the official BWF draw for the latest.

⚠️ Japan's two pairs in the individual women's doubles at the Asian Games were Yuki Fukushima / Mayu Matsumoto and Rin Iwanaga / Kie Nakanishi. The association's lists are dated 11 September 2026. We do not guess at names. The full calendar is on our 2026 badminton tournament schedule. Linked pages are in Japanese unless marked EN.

🔍 Keep your own scoresheet

"Second round", "third round" — none of it tells you how many matches a player actually played. In our records Hobara's 2026 reads: women's doubles second round at the Swiss Open, women's doubles semi-finals at the Orléans Masters, women's doubles second round at the Japan Open, mixed doubles second round at the China Open, third round in both events at the World Championships, first round in both at the China Masters. Read as a list, the World Championships looks like a third-round exit. In fact, at the World Championships she played four matches across two days and won the first two.

🔴Up to 2 September we recorded fourteen matches for her in 2026: six wins and eight losses (the Asian Games in late September and the Arctic Open and the Denmark Open in October are not in the fourteen) — nine women's doubles matches (four wins, five losses) and five mixed doubles matches (two wins, three losses). ⚠️At the Daihatsu Japan Open we hold only the second round, not the first. ⚠️The first round of the Orléans Masters was a walkover — her opponents withdrew — so no match was played and it is not counted. Where we hold nothing, we say so.

🇯🇵Read alongside the pages of the other Japanese players at the same events and a tournament looks different. Her mixed partner is Yuichi Shimogami; Japan's other mixed pair is Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi. ❓ Frequently asked questions

Who is Sayaka Hobara?

According to the Nippon Badminton Association's national team player page, Sayaka Hobara was born on 30 July 1998, is from Miyagi Prefecture, stands 165cm, is left-handed, plays for Yonex in Tokyo and went to Sei Ursula Gakuin Eichi High School. The association's 2026 women's national squad list gives the same club and home prefecture. J SPORTS, the Japanese broadcaster of the BWF World Tour, lists the same date of birth and home prefecture, describes her as a left-hander with outstanding stamina and athleticism, and notes that she represents Japan in two events in 2026. She is 28 as of 5 September 2026, and she plays two events: women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Who does Sayaka Hobara partner?

In the matches we record in 2026 she plays women's doubles with Rui Hirokami, her club-mate at Yonex, and mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami of Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering. When the Nippon Badminton Association announced Japan's squad for the China Masters 2026 on 7 August, Hobara was one of the players entered in two events. Partnerships can change between tournaments, so please check the official draw for each event.

What is Sayaka Hobara's world ranking?

On the lists dated 13 October 2026 she is World No. 14 in women's doubles with Rui Hirokami (53,800 points from 16 counted events) and World No. 15 in mixed doubles with Yuichi Shimogami (54,880 points from 15 counted events). The official BWF ranking (Week 42) and the specialist outlet Badminton Spirit's list dated 13 October agree on the place, the points and the number of counted events in both events. Compared with 15 September 2026, the women's doubles pair held 14th but lost 720 points (from 54,520), and the mixed doubles pair moved up one place from 16th (53,680 points). Their career highs are World No. 11 on 30 June 2026 and World No. 13 on 21 July 2026. World rankings are updated every week, so please read these as dated records rather than current figures, and check the BWF website for the latest list.

Which opponent did she both beat and lose to?

Luo Yi / Wang Ting Ge of China, in the women's doubles. On 19 August 2026, in the second round of the BWF World Championships, she and Rui Hirokami won 21-11, 19-21, 21-6 in 60 minutes. Fourteen days later, on 2 September, the same pair beat them in the first round of the China Masters 2026, 17-21, 21-8, 5-21, also in 60 minutes. Both matches went to three games and each contained a game in which the opponents were held to single figures. The two results sit on two different tournament pages on this site, so they can only be read together once the results are re-sorted by player.

What difference does entering two events make?

It means days with two matches. At the 2026 BWF World Championships she played two matches on 19 August and two more on 20 August — four matches across two days. She won both on 19 August and lost both on 20 August. At the 2026 China Masters the two events did not overlap: the mixed doubles went out on 1 September and the women's doubles on 2 September, a day apart. Her mixed partner Yuichi Shimogami shows the opposite pattern, where the two events end on different days and stretch his tournament out.

What are Sayaka Hobara's 2026 results so far?

In the events we cover with a tournament page: in March, women's doubles second round at the Swiss Open (Super 300, Basel) as 8th seeds and the semi-finals at the Orléans Masters (Super 300, Orléans) as 4th seeds; women's doubles second round at the Daihatsu Japan Open (Super 750, Tokyo) in July; mixed doubles second round at the China Open (Super 1000, Changzhou) in July; third round in both women's and mixed doubles at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi in August; and first round in both events at the China Masters (Super 750, Shenzhen) in September. Across those, up to 2 September, we record fourteen matches: six wins and eight losses, made up of nine women's doubles matches (four wins, five losses) and five mixed doubles matches (two wins, three losses). Her later matches at the Asian Games (mixed doubles, out in the second round), the Arctic Open (women's doubles, out in the first round) and the Denmark Open (women's doubles, out in the second round) are not in the fourteen. The first round at Orléans was a walkover and is not counted. She appears on neither the Japan Ranking Circuit page (May) nor the All Japan Corporate Team Championships page. For January, February and April we hold no tournament page at all. At the Indonesia Open (Super 1000) she reached the women's doubles semi-finals and lost there to Yuki Fukushima / Mayu Matsumoto 12-21, 12-21; that week is set out in its own section and is not part of the fourteen.

How did she do at the 2026 Indonesia Open?

In the women's doubles, unseeded with Rui Hirokami, she reached the semi-finals. First round on 3 June: the 8th seeds Gabriela Stoeva / Stefani Stoeva (BUL) 21-6, 12-21, 22-20.
