🏸 2026 results📅 What's next

Yuichi Shimogami (Japan, Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering) is 28 years old and plays two events: men's doubles with Takumi Nomura and mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara. 🔴Because his name is in two draws, losing one event does not end his tournament (→his tournament ends twice). At the China Masters 2026 he lost a mixed doubles first round in the morning of 1 September and won a men's doubles first round the same afternoon — twice on court in a single day. He is World No. 15 in mixed doubles and No. 25 in men's doubles as of 13 October 2026. This page lists every 2026 result we hold, with the score of each match, and every entry links to our tournament page for that event. This is an unofficial fan summary: the profile below only uses what our sources publish — we do not write about injuries or private life.

🏸 2026 results

Every 2026 result we record for Yuichi Shimogami, tournament by tournament. Tournament names link to our summary page for that event. ⚠️Of our own tournament pages, we hold summary pages for only two events from the first half of 2026 — the Japan Ranking Circuit in May and the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June, and Shimogami does not appear on neither of them. That is why the five events below are what we cover. We have no page at all for January to April. ⚠️One exception sits on another page of ours: our Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi page records a June All Japan Corporate Team semi-final rubber in which Shimogami and Takumi Nomura beat Yugo Kobayashi and Tsubasa Yoshida 11-15, 15-13, 15-7 — taken from the tournament’s official live-results site, not from a tournament page of our own, so it is not counted in the 13 matches below. 🔴Where he entered two draws, both events are shown on the same card.

7/14〜19 🏸 First round (MD)

Daihatsu Japan Open

Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

He entered the men's doubles only here — no mixed doubles. On the opening day, 14 July, he and Takumi Nomura lost the first round 13-21, 16-21 to fellow Japanese pair Kakeru Kumagai / Hiroki Nishi. Of the four 2026 events we cover, this is the one that ended for him soonest.

7/21〜26 🏸 R2 in both events

China Open

Super 1000・Changzhou, China

He played two events here and won the first round in both, then lost in the second round of both. In the men's doubles with Takumi Nomura he beat Presley Smith / Jennie Chen (USA) 21-19, 21-18; in the mixed with Sayaka Hobara he beat Tang Chun Man / Tse Ying Suet (HKG) 21-18, 19-21, 21-19 in three games. Both second rounds fell on 23 July and both were defeats — the men's doubles to Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri (INA) 19-21, 11-21 in 33 minutes, the mixed to Yang Po-Hsuan / Hu Ling Fang (TPE) 21-14, 15-21, 19-21. ⚠️Our own tournament page records that men's doubles second round only as 0-2 in games: the point scores come from BWF's official day-matches data and are carried by our Alfian / Fikri page. Of the three events where he entered two draws, this is the only one where both ended on the same day.

8/17〜23 🏸 Third round (XD)

BWF World Championships 2026

World Championships・New Delhi, India

🔴This is where the "his tournament ends twice" pattern shows most clearly. In the men's doubles (unseeded, with Takumi Nomura) he beat C. Popov / T. J. Popov (FRA) 21-13, 21-17 in 39 minutes on the opening day, 17 August, then went out in the second round on 18 August to defending champions Seo Seung-jae / Kim Won-ho (KOR, top seeds), 16-21, 13-21 in 38 minutes. His mixed doubles (13th seed, with Sayaka Hobara) started the very next day: a second-round win over Bimo Prasetyo / Arlia Munggaran (INA) 21-13, 21-16 in 35 minutes on 19 August, then a third round on 20 August against Dechapol Puavaranukroh / Supissara Paewsampran (THA, 4th seeds), lost 21-17, 12-21, 17-21 after taking the opening game. He was still playing two days after his men's doubles was over.

9/1〜6 🏸 Quarter-finals (MD)

China Masters

Super 750・Shenzhen, China

Here the pattern runs the other way. His mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara ended on the opening day, 1 September: a 9am first round lost 11-21, 15-21 in 35 minutes to Jiang Zhenbang / Wei Yaxin (CHN, 3rd seeds). But his men's doubles first round started at 3:50pm on that same 1 September, a 21-12, 21-16 win in 29 minutes over Chen Zhi Ray / Lin Yu Chieh (TPE). In the second round on 3 September he beat Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin (INA) 14-21, 21-16, 21-19 in 66 minutes — opponents who had knocked out the top seeds, KIM Won Ho / SEO Seung Jae (KOR), on day one — coming back from seven points down in the opening game. The quarter-final on 4 September was lost 13-21, 21-19, 12-21 in 56 minutes to Tee Kai Wun / Yap Roy King (MAS). That last-eight finish is his best result in the four 2026 events we cover.

9/20〜29 ✖ Mixed doubles: out in round 2

Asian Games 2026

Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan

He was in the squad the Nippon Badminton Association announced on 19 May 2026 and played the mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara (the announcement listed them at World No. 17 at that time). In the individual mixed doubles they went out in the second round. First round, 25 September: a Mongolian pair 21-4, 21-4. Second round, the same day: the 4th seeds from Chinese Taipei 10-21, 15-21. Japan's other mixed pair, Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi, also went out in the second round. Japan's men lost their team quarter-final 0-3 to India; we have not recorded any team match he played. ⚠️These two matches are not in the thirteen-match count we record (scores from Shimogami's side).

Scores are written from Yuichi Shimogami's point of view (Shimogami's points first). Only matches completed by 15 October 2026 are listed. Matches in progress are not listed.

🔥 His tournament ends twice

Yuichi Shimogami's name goes into two draws: men's doubles and mixed doubles. So losing one event does not always mean his tournament is over. Our tournament pages are written event by event in date order, so this shape only appears once the same results are re-sorted by player. Of the four 2026 events we cover, he entered two draws at three of them — and at two of those the two events ended on different days.

A chart of the three 2026 tournaments where Yuichi Shimogami entered two events, showing the gap between the days each event ended. At the 2026 BWF World Championships his men's doubles went out on 18 August while his mixed doubles lasted until 20 August, two days longer. At the 2026 China Masters his mixed doubles went out on 1 September while his men's doubles lasted until the quarter-final on 4 September, three days longer, and that last-eight finish was his best result of the year. At the 2026 China Open both events went out on the same day, 23 July, with no gap. Source: the tournament pages on TakeoriLab. The chart is labelled in Japanese.
Two of the three double-entry events ended on different days. The chart is labelled in Japanese.

We do not write about why any of this happened. What is listed above is only the dates and scores themselves, as recorded on our own tournament pages. ⚠️This counts only the four events we cover, not his full 2026 season.

🏆 Career highlights

📅 What's next

🔴As of 15 October 2026 he is not in the BWF main draw for the Denmark Open 2026 (13 to 18 October, Denmark, Super 750), which is under way. The same was true of the Arctic Open the week before (see below), and neither entry is in the French Open 2026 main draw published on 15 October.

✅The Asian Games 2026 (20 to 29 September, Ichinomiya Municipal Gymnasium, Aichi, Japan) are over. He was in the squad the Nippon Badminton Association announced on 19 May 2026, entered in the mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara for both the individual and the team event, one of Japan's two mixed pairs in the individual draw; the other is Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi. In the individual mixed doubles they beat a Mongolian pair 21-4, 21-4 in the first round on 25 September and lost the second round the same day to the 4th seeds from Chinese Taipei 10-21, 15-21. Japan's men lost their team quarter-final 0-3 to India (we have not recorded any team match he played). ⚠️These two matches are not in the thirteen-match count above (the card is in the 2026 results above; the full event is on our Asian Games 2026 page).

🗓️October in Europe: He is in the Japan squad the Nippon Badminton Association named on 11 September 2026 for the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October, Denmark, Super 750) and the French Open 2026 (20–25 October, France, Super 750), in both the men's doubles (with Takumi Nomura) and the mixed doubles (with Sayaka Hobara). At the Denmark Open neither his men's doubles entry with Takumi Nomura nor his mixed doubles entry with Sayaka Hobara is in the BWF main draw (we have not been able to confirm why, so we do not say). Neither entry is in the French Open main draw published on 15 October either (no reason has been announced, so we do not give one).

🔴The Arctic Open 2026 (6–11 October, Finland, Super 500) was played without him too. He was on the association's list of self-funded entrants of the same 11 September in both the men's doubles (with Takumi Nomura) and the mixed doubles (with Sayaka Hobara), but when we counted, one by one, all ten draws BWF published on 6 October 2026 for the five events — main draw and qualifying, Shimogami was in neither the main draw nor the qualifying (Japan has 17 entries at this tournament: nine singles players and eight doubles pairs). ⚠️ No reason has been announced, so we do not state one.

A figure comparing two lists for the Arctic Open 2026. The Nippon Badminton Association self-funded entry list of 11 September 2026 carried Yuichi Shimogami / Takumi Nomura in the men's doubles and Yuichi Shimogami / Sayaka Hobara and Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi in the mixed doubles. When all ten draws BWF published on 6 October 2026 for the five events, main draw and qualifying, were counted one by one, none of those three appear. Japan has 17 entries: nine singles players and eight doubles pairs. Those that are in the draw include Rui Hirokami / Sayaka Hobara as the 4th seeds in the women's doubles and Akira Koga / Natsu Saito in the mixed doubles, the pair sent as the national team. No reason has been announced, so we do not state one. The figure is labelled in Japanese.
Being on the entry list is not the same as being in the draw. The figure is labelled in Japanese.

🏠At home, his club Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering is in the men's S block of the S/J League 2026-27. According to our S/J League page, the opening Yokote event on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November has only the men's J and women's S leagues; the men's S block starts at the Tokyo event from 28 November. Line-ups have not been announced, so we do not guess.

⚠️ Japan's two pairs in the individual men's doubles at the Asian Games were Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi and Kakeru Kumagai / Hiroki Nishi. The association's lists are dated 11 September 2026. We do not guess at names. The full calendar is on our 2026 badminton tournament schedule. Linked pages are in Japanese unless marked EN.

🔍 Keep your own scoresheet

"First round", "second round", "quarter-finals" — none of it tells you how many days a player actually spent at a tournament. In our records Shimogami's 2026 reads: first round at the Japan Open, second round in both events at the China Open, second round (MD) and third round (XD) at the World Championships, first round (XD) and quarter-finals (MD) at the China Masters. Read as a list, the China Masters is both "a first-round exit" and "a run to the last eight". In fact the loss and one of the wins happened on the same opening day.

🔴Up to 4 September we recorded 13 matches for him in 2026: six wins and seven losses (his two Asian Games matches later in September are not in the 13) — eight in men's doubles (four wins, four losses) and five in mixed doubles (two wins, three losses). ⚠️For one of those, the China Open men's doubles second round, our own tournament page records only 0-2 in games: the point scores (19-21, 11-21 in 33 minutes) come from BWF’s official day-matches data and are carried by our Alfian / Fikri page. When a score does not come from our own tournament page, we say so.

🇯🇵Read alongside the pages of the other Japanese players at the same events and a tournament looks different. Japan's other mixed pair is Yuta Watanabe / Maya Taguchi; the men's doubles pair who withdrew from the World Championships is Takuro Hoki / Yugo Kobayashi. C. Popov, beaten by Nomura and Shimogami in the World Championships first round, also appears on Kenta Nishimoto's page.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Who is Yuichi Shimogami?

According to the Nippon Badminton Association's national team player page, Yuichi Shimogami was born on 5 March 1998, is from Kumamoto, stands 167cm, is right-handed, plays for Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering in Kanagawa and went to Nippon Sport Science University. The player profile on the Japanese specialist site Badminton Spirit gives the same date of birth, home prefecture, height, playing hand and club, and lists his schools as Taimei junior high, Yatsushiro Higashi high school and Nippon Sport Science University. He is 28 as of 5 September 2026, and he plays two events: men's doubles and mixed doubles.

Who does Yuichi Shimogami partner?

In the matches we record in 2026 he plays men's doubles with Takumi Nomura, his team-mate at Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering, and mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara of Yonex. When the Nippon Badminton Association announced Japan's squad for the China Masters 2026 on 7 August, Shimogami was one of the players entered in two events. Partnerships can change between tournaments, so please check the official draw for each event.

What is Yuichi Shimogami's world ranking?

On the lists dated 13 October 2026 he is World No. 15 in mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara (54,880 points from 15 counted events) and World No. 25 in men's doubles with Takumi Nomura (44,421 points from 16 counted events). The official BWF ranking (Week 42) and the specialist outlet Badminton Spirit's list dated 13 October agree on the place, the points and the number of counted events in both events. On 15 September 2026 the mixed pair was 16th (53,680 points) and the men's pair 26th, so both have moved up one place. Their mixed doubles career high is World No. 13, on 21 July 2026. World rankings are updated every week, so please read these as dated records rather than current figures, and check the BWF website for the latest list.

What difference does entering two events make?

If one event ends, the other can keep his tournament going. Of the four 2026 events we cover he entered two draws at three of them, and at two of those the events finished on different days. At the 2026 BWF World Championships his men's doubles went out on 18 August, his mixed doubles started on 19 August and ran to the third round on 20 August — two days longer. At the 2026 China Masters his mixed doubles went out on the opening day, 1 September, while his men's doubles ran to the quarter-final on 4 September — three days longer. Only at the 2026 China Open did both events finish on the same day, 23 July.

What are Yuichi Shimogami's 2026 results so far?

In the events we cover with a tournament page: men's doubles first round at the Daihatsu Japan Open (Super 750, Tokyo) in July; second round in both men's and mixed doubles at the China Open (Super 1000, Changzhou) in July; men's doubles second round and mixed doubles third round at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi in August; and mixed doubles first round with a men's doubles run to the quarter-finals at the China Masters (Super 750, Shenzhen) in September. Across those, up to 4 September, we record 13 matches: six wins and seven losses, made up of eight men's doubles matches (four wins, four losses) and five mixed doubles matches (two wins, three losses). His two mixed doubles matches at the Asian Games later in September (out in the second round) are not in the 13. Our own tournament page records the China Open men's doubles second round only as 0-2 in games; the point scores (19-21, 11-21 in 33 minutes) come from BWF's official day-matches data. From the first half of 2026 we hold summary pages for only the Japan Ranking Circuit in May and the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June, and Shimogami appears on neither, so this page starts in July.

How far did he go at the China Masters 2026?

To the men's doubles quarter-finals. With Takumi Nomura he beat Chen Zhi Ray / Lin Yu Chieh (TPE) 21-12, 21-16 in 29 minutes in the first round on 1 September, then Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin (INA) 14-21, 21-16, 21-19 in 66 minutes in the second round on 3 September — opponents who had beaten top seeds Kim Won-ho / Seo Seung-jae (KOR) on day one. The quarter-final on 4 September was lost 13-21, 21-19, 12-21 in 56 minutes to Tee Kai Wun / Yap Roy King (MAS). In the mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara he lost the first round on 1 September 11-21, 15-21 in 35 minutes to third seeds Jiang Zhenbang / Wei Yaxin (CHN).

How far did he go at the World Championships 2026?

Second round in men's doubles and third round in mixed doubles. Unseeded with Takumi Nomura, he beat C. Popov / T. J. Popov (FRA) 21-13, 21-17 in 39 minutes on 17 August and lost to defending champions Seo Seung-jae / Kim Won-ho (KOR, top seeds) 16-21, 13-21 in 38 minutes on 18 August. Seeded 13th with Sayaka Hobara in the mixed, he beat Bimo Prasetyo / Arlia Munggaran (INA) 21-13, 21-16 in 35 minutes on 19 August and lost to Dechapol Puavaranukroh / Supissara Paewsampran (THA, 4th seeds) 21-17, 12-21, 17-21 on 20 August, after taking the opening game.

Which tournament is Yuichi Shimogami playing next?

As of 15 October 2026 he is in the squad the Nippon Badminton Association named on 11 September 2026 for the Denmark Open 2026 (13–18 October) and the French Open 2026 (20–25 October), in both the men's doubles (with Takumi Nomura) and the mixed doubles (with Sayaka Hobara), but neither entry is in the BWF main draw for the Denmark Open, which is under way, or in the French Open main draw published on 15 October. Before that, he was on the association's list of self-funded entrants in both events for the Arctic Open 2026 (6–11 October), but his name was in neither the BWF main draw nor the qualifying. No reason has been announced, so we do not state one. At the Asian Games 2026 (20 to 29 September) he went out in the second round of the individual mixed doubles with Sayaka Hobara, losing 10-21, 15-21 to the 4th seeds from Chinese Taipei. At home, his club Hitachi Information and Communication Engineering is in the men's S block of the S/J League 2026-27, which opens for that block at the Tokyo event from 28 November (line-ups have not been announced). We do not guess at names.

Where can I watch his matches?

It depends on the tournament. Each of our tournament pages has a section on how to find the broadcast and streaming options for that event, so start from the results cards above. We do not state broadcast plans that have not been confirmed — Japanese broadcasters and streaming services are usually announced close to the tournament, so please check the tournament website and BWF for the latest.

If anything here is factually wrong, or if the player or their team would like this page taken down, please contact us and we will correct or remove it promptly.
