🏸 2026 results
Every 2026 result we record for Yushi Tanaka, tournament by tournament. Tournament names link to our summary page for that event (draw, the other Japanese entries, and how to follow the broadcast). 🆕The first card is the Swiss Open in March, which he won unseeded. ⚠️Among pages devoted to an event of their own from the first half of 2026, we hold only two — the Japan Ranking Circuit in May and the All Japan Corporate Team Championships in June, and Tanaka appears on neither. The Swiss Open is here because our own Swiss Open 2027 page carries the 2026 result with all five scores; we turned it into a card on 20 September 2026 (until then this page said we had no page at all for January to April). The second card is the Orleans Masters the following week, where he was the 6th seed and won one of two; those two results come from our own Orleans Masters 2027 page (published on 21 September 2026), and we turned them into a card on 22 September 2026. Nine events are listed.
Swiss Open 2026
Super 300・Basel, Switzerland
🏆He came in unseeded and won the title, five matches and five wins. On 11 March he beat Switzerland's Julien Scheiwiller 20-22, 21-10, 21-11; on 12 March, Magnus Johannesen (DEN) 21-16, 21-14; on 13 March, compatriot Koki Watanabe in the quarter-finals 21-14, 21-17; on 14 March, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (INA) 21-17, 21-12; and on 15 March, 6th seed Alwi Farhan (INA) in the final 21-18, 21-12. Only the first round went to three games; the other four finished in straight games. ⚠️English Wikipedia's list of the eight men's singles seeds for that event does not include him.
🆕Added on 20 September 2026: these five were already on our own Swiss Open 2027 page as the 2026 results, while this page still said we had no page at all for January to April — our own site disagreed with itself. ⚠️The Nippon Badminton Association's day page for 12 March labels the second round "third round"; English Wikipedia and our own tournament page call it the second round. The opponent, the score and the date agree across all three.
Orleans Masters 2026
Super 300・Orléans, France
Tanaka won this event in 2024 and came back in 2026 as the 6th seed. On 18 March he beat Moh. Zaki UBAIDILLAH (INA) 21-15, 21-11 in 35 minutes; on 19 March he lost 18-21, 21-17, 18-21 in 62 minutes to HU Zhe An (CHN), who had come through qualifying. Hu then beat top seed Chou Tien Chen 12-21, 21-18, 21-16 in the quarter-finals.
🆕Added on 22 September 2026: these two results were already on our own Orleans Masters 2027 page as the 2026 results. The Nippon Badminton Association's day pages for 18 and 19 March, the English Wikipedia draw and BWF's official match data agree on the opponent, the score and the date. Match times are from BWF's official data.
Daihatsu Japan Open
Super 750・Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium

He beat 8th seed LI Shi Feng (CHN) 21-17, 19-21, 21-15 in the first round, LEE Cheuk Yiu (HKG) 14-21, 21-10, 21-11 in the second and Kunlavut VITIDSARN (THA) 20-22, 21-16, 21-18 in the quarter-finals to reach the semi-finals, where he lost to compatriot Koki Watanabe 21-19, 21-23, 19-21. All four matches went to three games.
China Open
Super 1000・Changzhou, China
This Super 1000 started three days after his Japan Open semi-final. He went out in the first round to Lakshya SEN (IND) 20-22, 21-15, 14-21 — another three-game match, the opener decided by two points at 20-22. Sen was World No. 13 in men's singles on 25 August 2026.
BWF World Championships 2026
World Championships・New Delhi, India
Unseeded, he beat 16th seed WENG Hong Yang (CHN) 21-17, 21-14 in 43 minutes on day one, 17 August. Only two seeds lost that day — top seed Shi Yuqi and Weng. In the second round on 19 August he beat Ade Resky DWICAHYO (AZE) 21-18, 21-14 in 35 minutes, and in the third round on 20 August he lost to 6th seed CHOU Tien Chen (TPE) 14-21, 9-21, finishing in the last 16.
China Masters
Super 750・Shenzhen, China
In the first round on 1 September he lost to 3rd seed Kunlavut VITIDSARN (THA) 21-15, 14-21, 20-22 in 66 minutes, having taken the opening game 21-15 and pushed the decider to 20-22. It was the same opponent he had beaten in the Japan Open quarter-finals in July.
Asian Games 2026
Asian Games・Ichinomiya, Aichi, Japan
He was one of the ten men in Japan's squad (named on 19 May 2026) and, with Koki Watanabe, entered for the team event only in men's singles (he was World No. 19 on the list used for that announcement, dated 5 May 2026). Japan's men (seeded 4th) beat Kazakhstan 3-0 in the first round on 21 September and lost 0-3 to India in the quarter-final on 22 September. Tanaka was one of the ten men registered for the team event, but we have not recorded his team matches.
S/J League 2026-27
Japan domestic league・NTT East, men's S block
Japan's top domestic league. Tanaka's club NTT East won the men's title in S/J League 2025 and plays in the men's S block in 2026-27. The regular season runs from 31 October to 31 January, with the TOP4 Tournament on 20 and 21 February at Yokohama BUNTAI. Line-ups for each fixture are chosen by the clubs, so we do not guess at names.
80th All Japan Championships
All Japan Championships・Chofu, Tokyo
Japan's national championship. Tanaka won the men's singles title in 2021 (75th edition) and 2024 (78th edition). The 80th runs from 24 to 30 December 2026 at Keio Arena TOKYO in Chofu. The 2025 title, at the 79th edition, went to his NTT East team-mate Kodai Naraoka. The draw is usually published one or two weeks before the event.
Scores are written from Yushi Tanaka's point of view (Tanaka's points first). Only matches completed by 22 September 2026 are listed. Matches in progress are not listed.
🔁 The same opponent twice
On 17 July 2026 Tanaka beat Kunlavut VITIDSARN of Thailand in the Japan Open quarter-finals. Forty-six days later, on 1 September, he drew him again in the first round of the China Masters. Kunlavut was World No. 3 in men's singles on 25 August 2026 with 86,915 points, and won the 2023 World Championships. We held both matches as primary records — but on two separate tournament pages, so they could not be read side by side.
- 🥉17 July 2026 — Japan Open, quarter-final: won 20-22, 21-16, 21-18, after dropping the opening game 20-22.
- 🏸1 September 2026 — China Masters, first round: lost 21-15, 14-21, 20-22 in 66 minutes. This time he took the opening game and lost the decider 20-22.
- 🔥A game ending 20-22 appears in both matches. The first time he dropped it and won; the second time he dropped it and lost.
🏸All four of his Japan Open matches went to three games. He beat 8th seed LI Shi Feng (CHN) 21-17, 19-21, 21-15 on 15 July, LEE Cheuk Yiu (HKG) 14-21, 21-10, 21-11 on 16 July, Kunlavut on 17 July, and lost the semi-final to compatriot Koki Watanabe 21-19, 21-23, 19-21 on 18 July. In three of the four he lost the opening game, and won two of those from behind.
Every score above comes from our own tournament pages. World rankings are updated every week, so every ranking on this page is written with its date.
🏆 March: six wins, one defeat
🏆At the Swiss Open 2026 (BWF World Tour Super 300, St. Jakobshalle, Basel, 10–15 March), Tanaka came in unseeded and won the title. We hold all five matches, five wins and no defeats — five of the eleven wins we record for him in 2026 up to 1 September (the Arctic Open and Denmark Open matches after that are not in this count).
- 🇨🇭11 March, first round: Switzerland's Julien Scheiwiller 20-22, 21-10, 21-11. His only three-game match of the week, won after dropping the opener 20-22.
- 🇩🇰12 March, second round: Magnus Johannesen (DEN) 21-16, 21-14.
- 🇯🇵13 March, quarter-final: compatriot Koki Watanabe 21-14, 21-17. Watanabe won this same tournament in 2023, so it was a meeting of two Swiss Open champions.
- 🇮🇩14 March, semi-final: Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (INA) 21-17, 21-12.
- 🏆15 March, final: 6th seed Alwi Farhan (INA) 21-18, 21-12.
🔁In the sixteen matches up to 1 September, two opponents met Tanaka twice, and both series finished one win each. One is Kunlavut Vitidsarn, above; the other is Koki Watanabe — Tanaka won the Swiss Open quarter-final 21-14, 21-17 on 13 March and lost the Japan Open semi-final 21-19, 21-23, 19-21 on 18 July. Those two records sit on two different tournament pages; only re-sorting by player puts them side by side. (At the Arctic Open in October he met both a third time, beating Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarter-final and Koki Watanabe in the semi-final.)
🇫🇷The following week he went to the Orleans Masters 2026 (Super 300, Orléans, France), the event he had won in 2024, this time as the 6th seed, and went out in the second round.
- 🇮🇩18 March, first round: Moh. Zaki UBAIDILLAH (INA) 21-15, 21-11, 35 minutes.
- 🇨🇳19 March, second round: lost 18-21, 21-17, 18-21 to HU Zhe An (CHN) in 62 minutes. Hu had come through two qualifying matches, and went on to beat top seed Chou Tien Chen 12-21, 21-18, 21-16 in the quarter-finals.
🔴In Basel only his opening match went to three games; in Orléans his second one did, and he lost it. Across the two March events he won six of seven, and the one defeat went to three games.
All five Swiss Open results were checked against the Nippon Badminton Association's day-by-day results for the Swiss Open 2026 and the draw for the 2026 Swiss Open on English Wikipedia, which agree on the opponent, the score and the date. ⚠️The association's page for 12 March labels the second round "third round". We do not publish figures we have not verified, so no match times are given for the Swiss Open: neither source publishes them. The two Orleans Masters results agree across our own Orleans Masters 2027 page, the association's day pages for 18 and 19 March, the English Wikipedia draw for the 2026 Orléans Masters and BWF's official match data, which is also where the match times come from.
🔥 Beat the top seed
⚠️The three results in this section are not counted in the sixteen above. Our Indonesia Open 2027 page carries the previous edition's final and semi-finals, but not Tanaka's rounds. His quarter-final opponent's page, Jonatan Christie, already has the match, so we record it on this side too (added on 24 September 2026). The event was a Super 1000 in Jakarta, 2 to 7 June 2026, and Tanaka was unseeded. All three agree with the official BWF day data and the draw on English Wikipedia on the points, the dates, the opponents and who won.
- 🇮🇳2 June, round of 32: beat Srikanth Kidambi (IND) 21-19, 21-15 in 37 minutes.
- 🔥4 June, round of 16: beat the top seed Shi Yuqi (CHN) 21-16, 21-11 in 31 minutes, his quickest match of the week.
- 🔻5 June, quarter-final: lost 19-21, 22-24 in 49 minutes to the 5th seed Jonatan Christie (INA). The second game went to 22-22.
Quarter-finalist with two wins and one loss, all in two games (four games won, two lost). Christie went on to win his semi-final and finished runner-up.
🔁In what we record, this is Tanaka's only 2026 meeting with Shi Yuqi. Shi's side of 2026 is on Shi Yuqi's page.
Sources: the official BWF day data and the draw on English Wikipedia, with the same score for all three. Our tournament pages are built around the final rounds and the leading Japanese entries, so Tanaka's rounds are not on the tournament page.

Eight of the sixteen matches we record for Tanaka in 2026 up to 1 September went to three games — exactly half. All four at the Japan Open did, so did the China Open the following week and the China Masters in September. The Swiss Open in March was the other way round: only the first round of his five went to three (at the Orleans Masters the following week, his second-round defeat did). The sixteen are eleven wins and five defeats, and four of the five defeats went to three games — the only straight-games loss was the World Championships third round. (The Arctic Open and Denmark Open matches after that are not in this count.)
🔴A results table does not show who he beat. On the ranking list dated 25 August 2026, Li Shi Feng was World No. 10, Kunlavut Vitidsarn No. 3 and Weng Hong Yang No. 18 — Tanaka himself was No. 19 on the same list. None of those three names appears in a line that just reads "first round" or "semi-finals".
🏫Something else shows up only when our player pages are read side by side. Tanaka's club, NTT East, is also Kodai Naraoka's. The 2021 All Japan final was between two players who are now team-mates — Tanaka was a student at Nihon University at the time. With Kenta Nishimoto, the three of them were Japan's men's singles entries at the 2026 World Championships.
